Starting Life at Thirty
When I was younger, I dreamed of being an artist. I spent hours everyday drawing and sketching. Problem was, I never knew exactly what direction to take my art. There were so many avenues I wanted to pursue- fashion designer, painter, architect. The list went on and on; however, when it really came down to it, essentially, I just loved to create things that were pleasing to my eyes and that brought joy to someone else. When I got older and it was time to settle on a direction for my life my parents asked me what I was going to study- and when I told them art- well, they were more amused and shocked than supportive. They said I couldn't make a living doing that. So, I ended up joining the military. ( I know, not the usual choice for a creatively minded person). It was rigid and full of rules and regulations, but it was ironically one of the best experiences of my life. I worked as a Hospital Corpsman in the Navy and had the opportunity to meet all kinds of people and it opened doors to the world for me. I have been out now for about 7 years and although I have worn many different hats over the years, I have chosen to return to what my heart wants...to be a artist. I may not make a lot of money doing this -but I haven't made much doing other things either. At least - this is something I get much more reward from doing than just the monetary kind. So, at thirty I have begun to pursue my dream and I hope you all enjoy my visions as well...thanks so much!Enjoy!
